In a defiant statement ahead of Ghana’s December 2024 elections, New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Youth Organizer, Salam Mustapha, has made it clear that the party will not relinquish power merely to preserve peace.
Speaking at a mini rally in Takoradi on August 17, 2024, just one day before the NPP’s highly anticipated manifesto launch, Mustapha set a resolute tone for the party’s campaign.
Addressing a crowd of supporters, Mustapha underscored the NPP’s firm stance on maintaining its position of power, regardless of the pressures or challenges that may arise. “I’m also telling them that the NPP will not sacrifice power on the altar of peace, we will not do it.
We will not submit, we will not be cowed, prevented, or pushed,” Mustapha declared, echoing his unwavering commitment to the party’s hold on governance.
Mustapha’s comments were aimed at the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), with whom the NPP is expected to face off in a fiercely contested election. He assured the crowd that the NPP is prepared to tackle any opposition and that the party boasts a roster of strong, capable individuals ready to defend their position before, during, and after the elections.
Demonstrating his confidence, Mustapha took a more personal approach, using his physical prowess as a metaphor for the party’s strength. “Look at my muscles, these muscles are natural, my muscles are full of bones. If the NDC believes they are stronger than us, they should dare in this election and they will see that we have the men,” he said, emphasizing his belief in the party’s resilience and capability.
Despite his bold declarations, Mustapha clarified that the NPP remains committed to peace and the progress of Ghana. He stressed that while the party values peace, it will not be forced out of power by any means or tactics. “We’re for peace, we like peace, we’re for the progress of the country. But we will not be pushed out by any form of tactics. Ghanaians will make their choice and vote for the NPP,” he concluded.
Mustapha’s fiery rhetoric highlights the high stakes of the upcoming elections and sets the stage for a tense and contentious political battle as both major parties gear up for December.
