In a poignant display of unity, the Asafo of the four main clans under the Osu Traditional Council rallied together to accompany Nii Noi Nortey as he filed his nomination to contest in the Klottey Korle primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The resonant call of ‘Shiats3 Mi Ba’ rang through the air as Klottey Asafo proclaimed their unwavering support for Nii Noi Nortey’s candidacy.
This assembly marked a momentous occasion, as it was revealed that since 1931, no one had succeeded in uniting all four Asafo clans of Klottey under a single banner. Nii Noi Nortey’s ability to achieve this feat was lauded by Nii Teiko Aflangai of Osu Ashante Asafo, who expressed his admiration for Nii Noi’s capability to unite factions and inspire greatness.
Nii Teiko Aflangai shared, “The last time the four Asafo groups gathered was around 1931, during the reign of Nii Noi’s great-great-grandfather as the Chief of Osu. We have never come together since. However, thanks to Nii Noi Nortey, we are now united with a common agenda to uplift the people of Klottey Korle.”
This unity extends beyond symbolic gestures, as the Asafo groups firmly unite behind Nii Noi Nortey’s leadership to drive the developmental agenda for the constituency.
Amidst this historic gathering, it was revealed that Klottey Korle is the sole constituency among the 34 in the Greater Accra region with two traditional paramountcies. Osu represents one, while the Atupkai-Gbeses of Adabraka and its environs represent the other. This unique heritage underscores their conviction that it’s time for true indigenous representation.
The Asafo groups lamented that their distinctive traditional constituency has often been influenced by non-indigenous interests in political matters. Their resolute determination now centres on rallying behind their own, Nii Noi Nortey, to represent their collective voice in the national assembly parliament.
As ‘Shiats3 Mi Ba’ continues to resonate, the unity displayed by Klottey Asafo and their unyielding support for Nii Noi Nortey symbolizes a transformative shift toward a future of shared empowerment and representation.
