In a heartfelt and compelling appeal to President John Mahama, Hon. Joycelyn Tetteh, the Member of Parliament for North Dayi, has called for greater representation from the Volta Region in the upcoming government appointments, asserting that the region’s overwhelming support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 elections deserves to be duly recognized.

In a Zoom interview on PM Express on Joy News on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, Hon. Tetteh pointed to the Volta Region’s crucial role in securing NDC’s victory, particularly highlighting the region’s strength as the party’s bedrock. She emphasized that despite the Volta Region’s unwavering loyalty, their representation in appointments remains disproportionately small.

“We have 18 seats, and we were able to snatch one from the NPP. Out of the 18 MPs, only two women made it through, which is a major achievement given the political landscape,” she said. “Considering the tough political environment, especially for women, I believe the president should take this into account when making his appointments.”

Hon. Tetteh acknowledged that the Volta Region had limited resources but stressed that the determination and resilience of its MPs played a key role in securing their seats. “We didn’t have the resources others had, but we worked tirelessly to maintain our seats. Our hard work deserves recognition,” she noted.
In a diplomatic yet firm tone, the North Dayi MP made it clear that while the region deserves more appointments, she also respects the president’s discretion in the matter. “It wouldn’t be bad if the president increased the figures of appointments from our stronghold, but ultimately, the decision lies with him,” she stated, carefully emphasizing that the president is under no obligation to follow such requests.

When asked if she herself would be willing to serve in a government position if offered, Hon. Tetteh responded with confidence and grace, reaffirming her commitment to her constituents. “Having served as an opposition MP for eight years, I would certainly consider serving in government if the president deems me worthy,” she said. “I have availed myself to serve my people for eight years in opposition, and if President Mahama feels that I deserve a seat at the table, I am ready to serve.”

Her comments shed light on the ongoing conversations about the distribution of political appointments following the NDC’s electoral success, with many from the Volta Region calling for greater representation to reflect their invaluable contribution to the party’s triumph.

Hon. Tetteh’s words echo a broader sentiment in the region, one that insists on fair recognition for the Volta’s unwavering support. As the president prepares to make key decisions on appointments, it remains to be seen how much weight will be given to the calls for increased representation from the Volta Region.
