Wontumi vs Metumi

In a recent address to his supporters in the Ashanti Region, Kennedy Kwame Agyapong, an aspirant for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer position, has made startling allegations against the party’s regional chairmen. Agyapong claims that the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi-Bosiako, popularly known as “Wontumi,” along with his counterparts in the Northern and Volta regions, has transformed the prestigious National Council of the NPP into a hooligan group.
Agyapong expressed his dismay at what he perceives as Wontumi’s unbecoming behaviour and his use of “corrupted grammar” during meetings of the National Council, which serves as the party’s second-highest decision-making body. He called attention to the need for decorum and respect within the party’s leadership.
The KenCIty Chairman did not mince words in issuing a stern warning to Wontumi, cautioning him to refrain from any dubious schemes leading up to the November 4, 2023, primary elections or face the consequences. Agyapong asserted his superiority in dealing with electoral violence and implied that Wontumi would be outmatched in any such confrontation.
Kennedy Agyapong, and fellow aspirants Akoto Osei and Engineer Francis Addai-Nimoh, face a formidable challenge in the race to secure the NPP’s flagbearer position for the 2024 elections. Their competition includes Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who emerged as a prominent figure in the party following the outcome of the special delegates’ conference held on August 26, 2023.
As the NPP’s internal politics intensify ahead of the 2024 elections, Agyapong’s allegations and warnings serve as a stark reminder of the stakes involved and the growing tensions within the party’s leadership ranks.
