Godfred Yeboah Dame, Attorney General

The Attorney General’s Office has issued a directive to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to conduct a thorough and independent investigation into the case involving the stolen cash from Cecilia Abena Dapaah’s residence. The directive comes in response to the initial complaint filed by Dapaah on July 1, 2023, stating that $800,000 belonging to her deceased brother and GHS300,000 designated for her mother’s funeral were stolen.

The office highlighted the importance of establishing key aspects of the case, including:

  1. True Ownership of the US$800,000: The investigation aims to determine the actual owner of the US$800,000 and verify the source from which the funds were acquired.
  2. Source of the US$800,000: The CID is tasked with identifying the origin of the US$800,000 and investigating the legitimacy of its acquisition.
  3. Accused’s Involvement: The inquiry seeks to ascertain whether the accused, who was found in possession of a bundle of dollars on the day of the incident, actually stole the entire US$800,000 as reported.

The directive also addressed the inclusion of additional amounts, specifically $200,000 and €300,000, which Cecilia Dapaah claimed were stolen. The investigation aims to determine the rightful owners of these amounts and verify the sources of acquisition.

Furthermore, the Attorney General’s Office emphasized the need for clarity on the ownership of the various sums of money involved in the case, in order to avoid any confusion in the charges.

The directive expanded the scope of the investigation to include potential money laundering and other financial crimes, given the substantial volume of cash reported stolen from the complainants’ residence. It was noted that Cecilia Abena Dapaah had held a high-ranking public position and her husband, Daniel Osei Kuffuor, identified himself as an architect in his statement to the Police.

The Attorney General’s Office stressed the importance of compliance with the investigative directives and urged the CID to submit the results of the expanded investigation to their office. The returned duplicate docket is intended to facilitate adherence to the given instructions.

The outcome of these investigations will play a crucial role in shaping the Attorney General’s comprehensive decision on the case, which is eagerly anticipated by the public and stakeholders alike.
