Mark-Oliver Kevor, Eastern Regional Chairman-NDC

The Eastern Regional Executive Committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has taken a firm stance against the formation of associations comprising former party officers in the region. This decision came after a crucial meeting held on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, to address a significant internal development within the party.

In a statement issued and signed by the Regional Chairman, Mark Oliver Kevor, it was emphasized that such practices are in violation of Article 47(a) of the party’s constitution. The committee called upon the promoters and sponsors of these associations to cease their activities immediately.

Moreover, the committee urged all party members to refrain from associating with the newly formed association and its executives. The objective behind this call was to prevent potential internal conflicts and to preserve unity within the party.

While advocating for inclusivity, the committee extended an invitation to former party executives to contribute their wealth of experience to the party’s endeavors. However, they cautioned against the establishment of parallel structures, citing the potential risks posed to the party’s unity and overall success.

During the meeting, it was observed that proponents of this association had been actively organizing meetings and appointing regional executives. Additionally, they were encouraging former executives at the constituency level to replicate these actions. The Regional Executive Committee expressed grave concern over these activities, asserting that they contradicted fundamental principles outlined in the NDC’s constitution, particularly Articles 14, 16, and 19.

In response to these developments, the Regional Executive Committee issued a press release, urging the promoters of the association to dissolve it immediately. They emphasized the paramount importance of unity and adherence to established party structures.

The Regional Executive Committee reiterated its unwavering commitment to promoting peace, unity, and shared objectives within the party. They underscored the crucial role of solidarity as the NDC endeavors to secure victory in the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections under the leadership of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, working tirelessly to realize the party’s vision for the future of Ghana.
