Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the outgoing MP for Assin Central, has launched a scathing attack on the residents of Kintampo, accusing them of being “ungrateful” despite the numerous benefits they have received from the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Addressing a rally during Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh’s campaign tour, Agyapong expressed his frustration over the local voting patterns.

“The NPP has been fair to you, Kintampo people,” Agyapong declared. “You keep voting for the NDC every election year, even though we’ve given you so much. I’m the chairman of the government’s Astroturf project. You need one, but I won’t be pushing for it because you’ve shown yourselves to be ungrateful.”

Agyapong highlighted key appointments from Kintampo under the current government, including the Comptroller-General and the Director-General of the Immigration Service, suggesting these positions have not garnered sufficient appreciation from the community.

In a desperate plea, Agyapong urged traditional leaders and local party members to reconsider their political allegiance. “For once, after voting for the NDC for over 32 years, change your vote and support the NPP,” he urged. He warned that failure to support the NPP in the upcoming elections would mean no more development projects from the party.

His remarks have ignited a debate on whether government-funded development projects should be tied to political support and the perceived ingratitude of communities benefiting from such initiatives.
