The Local Government Service Workers’ Union (LGSWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has made it clear—it wants nothing to do with the ongoing strike by the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG).
In a bold statement, LGSWU distanced itself from the February 20 industrial action, stating that CLOGSAG’s strike is not a priority for its members and that other pressing concerns demand their attention.
“It is important to recall that in 2022, CLOGSAG filed a lawsuit challenging the appointment of Mrs. Henrietta Lamptey as Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry. The High Court is yet to deliver judgment on that case. Until its final determination, negotiations and further engagements can help resolve the matter,” the statement noted.
LGSWU insists its focus remains on securing an enhanced salary structure and better working conditions for Local Government Service staff across the country.
“The needs of our members and staff nationwide are clear and urgent,” the union emphasized, calling on members to concentrate on tangible benefits rather than engaging in a strike with no clear advantage.
Urging restraint, LGSWU made it crystal clear: they won’t be dragged into unnecessary battles.
“We will continue to put our energies into advocating for fair salaries and improved conditions that benefit every worker under the Local Government Service,” the union affirmed. Capping off its statement, the union urged members to conserve their strength for more crucial struggles ahead rather than getting caught up in what they see as CLOGSAG’s legal entanglements.
“Together, let us conserve and channel our efforts toward the battles ahead,” the statement concluded.
With this move, LGSWU has drawn a sharp line in the sand—leaving CLOGSAG to fight its own battles!
