As part of the Easter celebrations, the Member of Parliament for Mfantseman Constituency in the Central Region, Ophelia Mensah Hayford, extended a helping hand to over 700 widows in her constituency. The gesture, which occurred on Monday, April 1, 2024, at Kormantse, aimed to not only mark the Easter festivities but also to provide support to the elderly, complementing the Government’s Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) Programme.

In the midst of global Easter commemorations, the economic challenges facing Ghana have exacerbated the difficulties faced by the less privileged, particularly those who rely heavily on philanthropic assistance. MP Ophelia Mensah Hayford’s annual event has become a beacon of hope for widows in the constituency, bringing together over 700 individuals for a day of celebration and support.

The widows, filled with gratitude and enthusiasm, received pieces of cloth along with food, drinks, and traditional music, fostering a sense of unity and reassurance that they are not forgotten. Speaking to journalists, MP Ophelia Mensah Hayford emphasized the importance of Easter as a time to show love and support to the less fortunate, highlighting the various programs aimed at uplifting the underprivileged in the constituency.

While acknowledging that some of the widows are beneficiaries of the Government’s poverty alleviation program, LEAP, MP Ophelia Mensah Hayford stressed the need for continued efforts to improve the welfare of vulnerable individuals in society.

During the event, the MP also took the opportunity to facilitate the registration of new widows onto the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) for free, ensuring they have access to essential healthcare services.

The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the kind gesture, showering blessings upon MP Ophelia Mensah Hayford for her unwavering support. Their heartfelt appreciation reflected the impact of her actions on the lives of widows within the Mfantseman constituency, and they hoped for continued blessings and strength for her to continue making a positive difference in the years to come.
